Tiago Coimbra | Oboe

[EN] Tiago Patrocínio Coimbra (b. 1990) is principal oboe at the Göttinger Symphonie Orchestra and is also member of the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras.

He was a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and played as a guest principal oboe with NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Staatsoper Hannover, Staatsorchester Braunschweig, Staatsorchester Kassel, Remix Ensemble, Orquestra XXI, Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa and Orquestra do Norte, and he also performed with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Opernhaus Zürich, Orquestra Gulbenkian and Orquestra Nacional do Porto. He has performed in the main European cities, as well as in Russia, China and Japan.

Coimbra was awarded prizes in international competitions and played as soloist with Basel Kammerorchester, Argovia Philharmonic, Göttinger Symphonie Orchester, Philharmonic of Yakutia and with the Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra. Chamber music takes a very important role in his career. He is founding member of Art'Ventus Quintet and plays often with the ensemble Camerata Nov'Arte, harpist Carolina Coimbra, Trio Fermata and with soloists of the Göttinger Symphony Orchestra.

Tiago worked with some of the most important composers of his time, Hans Ulrich Lehmann, Helmut Lachenmann, Heinz Holliger, James MacMillan, Sérgio Azevedo, Luís Carvalho and David Philip Hefti, and performed the premiere of some of their pieces for the oboe. His own pieces are available at AVA Musical Editions.

He started his oboe lessons with Saul Silva and Ana Madalena Silva in Portugal at the Music Conservatoire in Vila Nova de Gaia. Later on he did his Master’s degree at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste with Thomas Indermühle having finished in 2013 with the highest mark. In 2016, Tiago finished, with distinction, the Soloist Diplome studies at the Hochschule für Musik Basel with Emanuel Abbühl. Furthermore, he studied with Maurice Bourgue at the Academie Musicale de Villecroze.

Tiago Coimbra was a scholarship holder of the prestigious Swiss foundations LYRA Stiftung, Fritz-Gerber Stiftung, Bruno-Schuler Stiftung, among others.

Foi membro da Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester e colaborou como oboé solista com a NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Staatsoper Hannover, Staatsorchester Braunschweig, Staatsorchester Kassel, Remix Ensemble, Orquestra XXI, Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa e Orquestra do Norte, e integrou ainda a Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Opernhaus Zürich, Orquestra Gulbenkian e Orquestra Nacional do Porto. Atuou nas principais cidades europeias, bem como na Rússia, China e no Japão.

Tiago Coimbra foi premiado em vários concursos internacionais e apresentou-se a solo com a Basel Kammerorchester, Argovia Philharmonic, Göttinger Symphonie Orchester, Philharmonic of Yakutia e com a Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras. A música de câmara assume um papel importante na sua carreira, pelo que é membro fundador do Art'Ventus Quintet e trabalha regularmente com o ensemble Camerata Nov'Arte, a harpista Carolina Coimbra, o CODA Quintet, o Trio Fermata e com solistas da GSO.

O gosto pela música contemporânea levou-o a trabalhar com alguns dos mais importantes compositores do seu tempo, como Hans Ulrich Lehmann, Helmut Lachenmann, Heinz Holliger, James MacMillan, Sérgio Azevedo, Luís Carvalho e David Philip Hefti, de quem estreou algumas obras para oboé. Enquanto compositor, as obras de Tiago Coimbra estão disponíveis na AVA Musical Editions.

Concluiu em 2016 com distinção o diploma de solista com Emanuel Abbühl na Hochschule für Musik Basel, após ter terminado em 2013 o mestrado com a classificação máxima na Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, na classe de oboé de Thomas Indermühle. Estudou também com Maurice Bourgue na Academie Musicale de Villecroze e em aulas particulares. Iniciou os estudos de oboé com Saul Silva e Ana Madalena Silva no Conservatório de Vila Nova de Gaia, cidade de onde é natural.

Ao longo da sua carreira foi bolseiro das prestigiadas fundações suíças LYRA Stiftung, Fritz-Gerber Stiftung e Bruno-Schuler Stiftung, entre outras.
